2015 Design Team Introducing Kerrie Gurney
#couturecreationsaus
Hi everyone Kerrie here,
I
live in the beautiful Redlands which is the
bayside of Brisbane and have been married to my husband Wayne for 26 years, we
have 3 children Ashleigh (22 today) Brayden (20) and Taylah (15).
I
started my “career” in the craft industry way back in 1996 and still love every
minute of it.
I
have worked in the papercrafting industry since then, teaching classes at
conventions and stores around Australia. One of the most amazing teaching
experiences I have had was traveling to South Africa to teach at the SA
Scrapbook Convention in Johannesburg and Cape Town. It truly was an amazing
experience and one I will remember forever. I dream of returning to South
Africa one day as I fell in love with the people and the country.
In 2014 I was so very
privileged to be the Papercraft Guest Artist at the Craft & Quilt Fair in
Brisbane, and in 2015 I am their Guest Artist at Craft & Quilt
Fairs around Australia, so please check my blog to see when I will be in your
city and come and say Hi, oh and don’t forget the coffee :)
2016 will see me hitting the
high seas on the inaugural Workshop Wonders on Water Scrapbooking Cruise, I
am very excited about this event although I think will be getting a needle to help me get
my sea legs :)
I
really love teaching as I love the enjoyment people get out of creating. I
have had my work published here in Australia and also in the USA.
I
am very proud to be part of the Creative Design Team for Couture Creations an
Australian company devoted
to producing high quality products to the crafting industry.
As part of the Couture Creations Education Team I have been lucky to teach
classes in stores around Australia, at Papercrafting events and also
at the Artdeco Creations Retailers Education Event.
As
for crafting I love that I can make a page or card as simple or as embellished as I
want but when scrapbooking for me it is about the photo and reliving the memory while I am
scrapping. I also love to try new techniques and love adding texture to my
projects. I don’t really have a style it is usually how I am feeling or
what I am doing that dictates what I create, in saying that sometimes it is
whatever is on my desk as my room is so messy that I can’t get to anything
else.
I have made some fantastic friends over the years that is what is so great about the papercraft industry, the friendships
built and the memories saved and of course all those gorgeous products we just
have to have.
I can’t wait to inspire you and hopefully meet you
at an event one day soon

I created this Vintage look card using the new soon to be released Hearts Ease Papers, Dies and Embossing Folders.
I just love the purples in this collection
This card is another super quick one to create once you have coloured all your Couture Creations Flowers to match the papers.
I have used these 6 different flowers and coloured some purple/aubergine to match the paper and some I have given just a touch of gold.
I have used these 6 different flowers and coloured some purple/aubergine to match the paper and some I have given just a touch of gold.
It was a bit of trial and error to get the correct shade of purple/aubergine
I started with a purple mist but it was so the wrong colour so I added some gold to tone it down but that didn't work so I mixed 5 colour sprays this is where the non stick craft mat is perfect you just spray onto the mat mix the colours together and then rub the flowers onto the colour. I give my flowers a spritz with water first so the colour soaks in more evenly and then to add more texture to the flowers give them bit of a squeeze and scrunch
I then set the flowers aside to dry or you can dry them in a hurry with a hit of the Heat Tool
Here is a closer look at the flowers all coloured and scrunched
Onto creating the card

Onto creating the card
die cut 1 x 10.5cm section of Simone's Style lace border, 1 x Lilliputana die both in aubergine cardstock. 2 x the top section of Cycad leaves in green cardstock,
use Quick Release Die Paper so the cardstock doesn't stick into the dies.
Ink all the edges of the die cuts using brown ink and sponge dauber. Pinch the leave to add some life to the leaves.
Cut a piece of cream cardstock 10.5cm x 5cm and emboss using Garden Frame embossing folder
Cut Small Pansies paper to 10cm x 14.5cm and scrunch up to give a more vintage look
Cut pennants from Pansy Gingham, Orchard Delight and Pansy Damask papers I cut 2 x 4cm x 10cm and 1 x 2.5 x 10cm
Embossing the 2.5cm strip using the Chain Link Embossing Folder
Distress the edges of all papers and cardstock and ink the edges
and then start layering onto card base
Use the Turbo Glue Pen to adhere all your embellishments ..these pens are fabulous for adhering intricate die cuts
add all the flowers and leave on
with a touch of seam binding ribbon and muslin
finish off with some 2mm Gemstones
