Foiled Aperture Cards with Joanne

Fun Foiled Aperture Cards

To create the apertures with foiled borders on these cards I've use the Couture Creations Card Maker Frames, Nesting Negative Squares.

The technique for foiling the apertures is the same on all of the cards - they are just different sizes.

These are cut/foil dies so you'll need either 2 thin metal shims  or the Couture Creations Metal Conversion Plate on your GoPress & Foil to foil them.  You can also use these as normal dies in your die cutting machine and they will emboss around the aperture and you can use pigment inks on them if you want to create a coloured border at the same time as die cutting.

The first card is a shaker card.  The patterned paper is mounted on a layer of card before foiling, to that the aperture is cut in both at the same time.  Tape the foil and die in place on the card/paper, before heating on the GoPress & Foil, on top of the metal plate.  The cut/foil die should be cutting side up (see video).

I've foiled my sentiment onto some acetate and then secured that to the back of the aperture using double sided tape.  User shaker foam or 2 layers of foam pads on the back of the card front around the aperture and around the edges.  Around the aperture you need to make sure there are not gaps big enough for the sequins to fall through.  If you use glitter or seed beads make sure there are not gaps at all.

When you are ready to stick down the card front, add a pile of beads and/or sequins in the centre and then stick the card front down trapping them in the aperture behind the acetate.

For the 2nd card I've again layered the patterned paper onto card before cutting/foiling the aperture.  I started with them a little larger than I wanted them to be so that if the foiling wasn't straight I could trim the card/paper in line with the foiling.

The "Celebrate" sentiment is one of the Delightful Sentiments range.  You can foil it in the same way as the aperture cut/foil dies or just die cut and you can ink and die cut.

For the last card I cut/foiled 4 small apertures to hold the letters spelling out LOVE.

The apertures are cut into a panel of black card, which is then mounted onto a piece of black card the same size.  Then both are matted onto red mirror card.  The letters are also cut/foil dies.

At the bottom of the card I've added a die cut heart with a flag cut from black card.  The flag helps the "You" stand out against the background I've used.  The "You" is from the Delightful Sentiments Range of cut/foil dies.  These are foiled in the same way as the aperture dies and can also be just die cut or inked and die cut.

I show you how to foil with the aperture dies and alphabet dies in my video.
