Hello Crafty people..long time no see! I have had a busy few weeks and sadly my Design Team submissions had to take a bit of a back seat. BUT here I am back again with a layout inspired by a very lovely lady called Farrel Tailor whom I spent some time with recently while teaching on a cruise.
I have only dabbled in mixed media as I genuinely do not understand all the "rules". I do not know which products work with which etc and it was only sitting next to the talented Farrel that I learnt that there is no right or wrong..just play, try and learn. So I did with this layout featuring my husband and middle son. I gathered my L'Aquarelle supplies and went for it. I still have heaps to learn but its a start..so I hope you will have a go at getting out your gesso etc and "having a go".
After choosing my patterened papers I applied some Gesso with a baby wipe..just a random pattern in the center. I dried it with my heat tool.
Next up I made up some texture paste to use with my L'Aquarelle stencil using texture paste and some blue pigment powders.
I used the Rolling Mesh 6x6 Stencil for this layout. I let that air dry for a bit.

The pigment powders create a very pretty shimmer.
Next up I cut a few pieces of patterned paper to frame my photo. These were just randomly stuck to the back of the photo.
I broke up the "neatness" of the stencilling with some mists and loved the shimmer the copper spray gave to the layout.
I also used a variety of sprays to colour up some flowers to match the patterned papers.
The metal dragonfly was a gorgeous addition to the layout. The photo corner is one of the brass frames cut in half..I love that!
So there you go, a bit of a try learn play session with gesso, texture paste, pigment powders and mists. It was heaps of fun. I hope you will have a go for yourself. 'Til next time, see ya XX
